The FYI on ESP

by admin on February 12, 2009

The thought of speaking to another person or animal with the mind and understanding a communicable source of language between the two entities has intrigued everyone from everyday people to scientists. The practical uses for such methods of communication could revolutionize the world in both civil and private matters. Many attempts to gain this type of mental communication between both people and animals have been exercised and will continue to be exercised until real analytical proof that such abilities exist and are learnable through training of the mind.

Extra Sensory Perception, or ESP for short, is a special potential way of communicating that allows practitioners to gain knowledge about something beyond the use of the 5 physical senses that most humans have naturally. Throughout history, the advent of such abilities could have severely changed the outcome of many wars and situations that plague the world today.

Mentions of ESP phenomenon have been observed even in biblical times. The first real tests on ESP phenomenon were conducted in the late 1800’s in London, soon after many other countries were reporting similar findings for ESP related tests and studies. The people who claimed to have ESP were self proclaimed psychics and people sensitive to information that was not directly available. ESP was later laboratory studied by Parapsychologist J. B. Rhine under controlled conditions. This led to many of the “Rhine Experiments” that would test the power of such abilities. The simple experiments used cards with different symbols that the people being tested would then guess or call out what their minds were able to see. These tests were met with strong criticism, as the tests could not provide real data towards the variables that controlled or influenced ESP phenomenon in any way. Subjects being tested could simply guess the correct answer without any data to back up claims of ESP phenomenon.

The Russian army in World War II seriously invested time and effort into producing feasible ESP and Psychic abilities for use in the war effort. During the Cold War, a specific subject named Nina Kulagina underwent many experimental studies to practice her psychic powers. She would need to practice many hours of meditation or preparation before she could produce any results and many factors, including environmental factors would affect her ability to perform her feats. Later in her life, Kulagina suffered a heart attack claimed to be from over exertion from her psychic abilities, limiting her from practicing her proposed psychic and ESP abilities.

Other forms of ESP include remote viewing and astral projection. Remote viewing used the power of the mind to locate any person, place or thing and pull information about the surroundings. This would be an excellent way to map out a place that someone has not yet been to or to locate missing persons. Astral projection was an ability that claimed to allow a person to leave their physical body to obtain information from the actual location by being there through the unlimited astral space.

What is really known about ESP abilities and the process of communication between two or more minds is still very vague.  As exciting as the prospect of reading people’s minds can be, the invasion of our personal thoughts, identity theft and the unveiling of our deepest secrets would be unnerving.  There have been instances where twins have claimed to know what their twin was thinking and more. Many people feel that these abilities are far too advanced for humans to ever learn, but some animals may exhibit these abilities on a daily basis. Until there is a valid way to prove that ESP phenomenon is real, history is one of the only accounts of these special abilities.
