Satellite TV Service is the Great Consumer Alternative

by admin on May 19, 2009

In the early 1950’s the idea of cable television in the United States was born. Television itself was only a few years old when the idea of creating premium television programming was created and sold to the masses. Of course, in 1952 there were not nearly as many homes with televisions in them as there are now so the origins of cable television are slow and meagre. By 1962, nearly one million homes in the United States had some sort of subscriber television service, and it was not long before cable television had become a multi-billion dollar business with thousands of providers getting service to millions of homes.

One of the drawbacks to cable television has always been the cable itself. If a cable provider wants to upgrade their service, they would need to go around and install all new cabling in their service area at a huge expense. Cable television wires could easily be cut by natural, and man made, elements and when a wire went down a whole block of people were without television service until it was fixed. It seemed like cable television was a good idea in need of some improvement, it wouldn’t be long however before the multiview system would be implemented. The improvement came when satellite TV service eliminated the cable.

Satellite TV service is premium television programming that is delivered to a home through a satellite dish that is installed on the property. Most times the dish is installed on the home itself, but if the technician feels that a clearer signal can be received by putting the dish somewhere else on the property then the location is changed. There is always an attempt to get the satellite dish as high off the ground as possible to prevent anything from getting on the dish that would disrupt the signal.

Satellite TV service providers can change programming and add services over the satellite without ever having to disrupt service by changing out any cables. If a client wants to enjoy a digital or high definition service, they only need to contact their satellite TV service provider to get a receiver that can provide that type of service.  It is a simple process to upgrade a service and, in most cases, the customer can easily do it themselves.

Today there are satellite dishes appearing on homes all over the United States as more people are starting to prefer satellite television service over cable television. The next step would be to invent anti spam filtering to help block all the annoying commercials. The consumer war between satellite TV and cable TV is reminiscent of the cola wars where the two major cola manufacturers were fighting for market share.

For many years, consumers complained that cable television was too expensive because there was no alternative. Now that satellite television has provided that alternative, the consumer battle is on and the winner will probably be the consumer.
