Does My Calling Plan Reach the Afterlife?

by admin on March 3, 2009

Is it possible to communicate with the dead? I suppose that answer would depend on the belief in life after death. Since the beginning of time, virtually all civilizations have believed in some sort of afterlife. The belief that an afterlife exists has always gone hand in hand with the belief that communication between the living and the dead is possible.

Methods of communicating with the dead are as numerous as the practice’s sceptics. Some ancient techniques such as self-induced trances, drug-induced stupors, and ritualistic séances are still in use today in some cultures. Some of these civilizations look to their dead for guidance with important life decisions and even for agricultural advice. Some tribes believe they themselves can cross back and forth from the living to the spirit world, for the purpose of conferring with their dead elders.

More modern methods for communication with the dead include Ouija boards, automatic writing and channelling. Yes, Ouija boards apparently are used for more than just scaring the youngest girl at the sleep over. Invented in the 1800’s by a coffin maker, the Ouija board gained popularity in the 1960’s when Parker Brothers bought the patent and began mass producing the item. There are some clairvoyants today who utilize the Ouija board as their means to perform their craft.

Automatic writing is when a person writes words and sentences without being conscious of doing it. Some claim to write prophecies or predictions, but some however claim to be writing the words of the dead. Some automatic writers go into deep trances while they write. Others remain aware of their surroundings, but are still oblivious to the actions of their writing hand.

The modern day channelling of spirits draws upon Hinduism and Buddhism as well as other traditions. During a channelling session, a person channels the spirit of someone who has passed over into the afterlife and then communicates messages from the dead person. In recent times, this practice has become a very lucrative endeavour for self-proclaimed channels. The deep desire to communicate with a passed loved one and the need for spiritual guidance drives many to spend thousands of dollars attending channelling seminars and shows each year.

But, these days communicating with the dead is as easy as visiting your local library or surfing the internet. Countless books are available regarding this subject; many with step by step instructions. With nothing more than a library card and an open mind, you can start your conversation with your deceased loved one. If you aren’t a book reader, look no farther than the internet. In fact, you can even find an e-how article on how to communicate with the dead! Again, only an open mind is required; and a personal item from the dead person.

Is it all real? Can someone really talk to the dead? There are supporters on both sides. Both groups will defend their case just as vehemently. Both groups will try to prove the other wrong. But, no matter which group you are in, the debate keeps all of us living folks communicating. And that is always a good thing.
